I think Charles Dickens is one of my favorite authors - even if he hadn't written Nicholas Nickleby, there is always A Christmas Carol. Some of the best lines in literature, in my humble opinion, come from that work.
One of my favorites comes when Scrooge first sees the ghost of Jacob Marley in his rooms, and he is trying to convince himself he doesn't really see a ghost:

"You may be an undigested bit of beef, a blot of mustard, a crumb of cheese, a fragment of an underdone potato. There's more of gravy than of grave about you, whatever you are!"

Such clever writing. I often mis-quote this, saying, "There's more of gravy than of grave to you, spirit." Fortunately, most people don't have the quote memorized to correct me.
I have seen many versions of A Christmas Carol, both on stage, and on film. While I love Patrick Stewart as Ebeneezer Scrooge (he also reads a wonderful version on audiobook, if you get a chance), my favorite version is The Muppet Christmas Carol with Michael Caine as Scrooge and Kermit The Frog as Bob Crachit and Rizzo The Rat as Charles Dickens.
Now I shall have "No cheeses for us meeces..." stuck in my head...
