My marble story...
I carry a small Amethyst mini-sphere in my pocket as a worry-stone.
In a previous job, when I worked in big-box retail, I was helping clean up a broken bag of marbles in the toy department. One of my employees came to me later that day and presented me with one of the glass marbles - she said for me to keep it in my pocket, that way I would always have one marble left. So I would never have "lost all my marbles".
That's how I got into the habit of having a marble in my pocket.
One day, I found an Amethyst mini-sphere in a gemstone shop, that was marble-sized. Okay, a bit smaller than a normal marble. But I LOVE Amethyst, and it is a deep, dark purple. It replaced my glass marble in my pocket (the glass one is now in my change dish on my night stand).
Then, yesterday, I reached into my pocket, and my Amethyst marble was gone.
I was devastated.
I'm always careful when I take out change or my pocketknife or keys from my pocket - careful that the mini-sphere stayed put. Yet somehow, it had escaped.
I pictured it bouncing across the hardware store's floor or rolling under the donut counter at The Marketplace.
Then, last night, at home, I discovered my Amethyst marble! On the carpeted floor in my home office.
I had stripped down in there after doing some work outside on Sunday, emptying my pockets on the desk, and putting the clothes into the washer - which is in the room right next to the home office. One of the four-footed kids must've knocked it on the floor, and in my rush to get dressed on Monday morning for work, I didn't see it on the floor.
So, I found my marble!
I was so happy, I let out a yelp of happy surprise!
Lee said from the other room, "What's wrong?"
Hard to express my jubilation in "I found my lost marble" when so many other things are awry, but it made me glad to have found my marble! I simply said, "Nothing."
But now my Amethyst mini-sphere, my marble, is back in my pocket, where it belongs.
So, just so y'all know -- I haven't lost all my marbles yet!

Heh heh heh...great story, Mo!
I think I lost all of my marbles when I gave birth to my first child...something about children. I think they take part of your brain with you when you give birth to them.
Happy Manic Monday!!!
Comment by Jamie on 8:45 PM
It's a wonderful story and shows how much we can get attached to seemingly simple objects not really noticing them until they are missing and leave a big hole in our lives. I'm glad you found your lost marble.

So THAT'S why your hand is always in your pocket ;-)
I have talismans I have carried for years. I have this little pocket knife that I've had since 1980. I also carry the coin silver wedding ring of a soldier killed in the Civil War.
Glad you found your marble sugar

the greeks thought amethyst kept away melancholy and dark spirits.
I have some on my work desk.

Sorry Mo. I had so many irons in the fire this week that I just didn't have a chance to put together a post this week. Maybe next week it will be better.

Yup-I remember this story! I too, carry a little something with me, but it's not a marble...but that's another story for another day!
Happy MM my MoMo...

I love amethyst, too! (Our birthstone!) I'm so glad you haven't lost all your marbles - that makes one of us!! I think it's a great idea to carry a worry stone. I tend to lose things, so for me it would probably cause more worry. :-)
I posted two MM's this week. I was THAT inspired!

Great story, Mo. I loved it the first time around as well.
Mine's up, but it's a somber one this time...
Comment by lizza on 3:16 AM
Amethyst is my birthstone too, I love it. I'm glad you recovered your marble, Mo.
Comment by Amazing Gracie on 3:51 AM
Amethyst was my mom's birthstone and I'm very partial to purple. I've worn an amethyst ring for many years.
Maybe I need to start carrying a marble around with me as proof positive that I have at least one!
~~~Blessings~~~
Comment by Stine on 4:38 AM
Oh, I'm glad you found it!
Comment by Janna on 5:05 AM
I love this story.
I love gemstone spheres, I love amethyst, and I love the symbolism of ensuring that you don't lose ALL your marbles. :)
Comment by Kai on 5:34 AM
What a great story! I'm like that with Jade - I have a smooth piece that just feels good when it's in my hand.
Comment by Sanni on 5:35 AM
Reminds me of Tootles (remember the movie Hook?) - glad you´ve found your marble! =)
Comment by Jersey - The Furry Diva on 5:47 AM
Marbles... are these small balls rolling around on the floor called marbles??? The whole house is full of them... I think Sanni has lost hers =)
I´m happy you´ve found your marble, Mr Mo!
That's not what I said, when I learned the theme of today's post :)
Comment by Christine of Epiphany on 7:48 AM
I'm so happy, Mo! These little things are important.
I've been battling the whole sinus thing, too~ been taking Claritin and Vitamin C, to fight it off.
Sorry to hear of your chicken-and-egg loss~
Comment by Asara on 10:09 AM
I just can't stop thinking of Tootles in the movie Hook when I hear this story! :) I'm racking my brains for something to post over on my blog for today's MM, I'll let you know if I manage it :) *HUGS*
perfect marble story! glad you found it. :-)
Comment by TopChamp on 5:40 PM
That's a lovely story. I know I'm not a regular here but the theme fitted so I hope you don't mind my participation today.
Comment by I Was Born2Cree8 on 7:20 PM
I love your marble story, Mo. It reminds me that once upon a time, my older brother's 3rd ex-wife gave me a nice big cotton ball to have in my pocket... for when I needed to feel a "warm fuzzy". I'll have to put another one in my pocket again. It was cool to forget about it then go to get something from my pocket, and there was the warm fuzzy.
I'm glad you found your marble... now if only I can find mine. Sigh.
Comment by Travis on 10:34 PM
Most excellent story, as it was when I read it before!
Comment by Sparky Duck on 11:08 PM
