This week: the first 13 installments of my Egypt Tour that took place starting on 9/11. Yes, that September 11th! I know that this isn't a quick-in-and-out Thursday 13, but for those of you looking for a good adventure, dive in! Feel free to comment at individual installments (I get comments e-mailed to me) or just at the end of this post. Happy TT!
Egypt 1: September 10th
Leaving on a jet plane.
Egypt 2: September 11th
What it was like to be half-way across the planet when 9/11 happened.
Egypt 3: Mena House
The hotel where we stayed in Giza.
Egypt 4: Manic Morning
What would you do if you woke up the morning after September 11th in a foreign country, and your hotel was full of smoke?
Egypt 5: On The Bus
What do you tell your grandmother who thinks she's lost her passport while you're in a foreign country the day after September 11th? Shut up and get on the bus!
Egypt 6: The Museum
If you were allowed 1 minute per exhibit in the Cairo Museum, it would take nine months to see everything! We had a couple of hours!
Egypt 7: Kebabs, Kittens, and Dates
Finally, lunch!
Egypt 8: En Route To Sakkara
Back on the bus!
Egypt 9: Sakkara
Is every Tourist Police Man in Egypt going to flirt with me? Oh, and our first pyramid, too!
Egypt 10: Country Roads
John Denver never sounded so good...
Egypt 11: Pompey's Pillar
Is that a pillar in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?
Egypt 12: Two Thousand Camels, Each!
How much is your grandmother worth?
Egypt 13: Catacombs
Underground in Greco-Roman Egypt.
There you have the first 13 installments (just the first TWO DAYS!) of my 2001 Egypt Tour. So, do you want more tour installments next week, or some Extra Egypt stuff (gods, definitions, etc)?

The purpose of the meme is to get to know everyone who participates a little bit better every Thursday. Visiting fellow Thirteeners is encouraged! If you participate, leave the link to your Thirteen in others comments. It’s easy, and fun! Be sure to update your Thirteen with links that are left for you, as well! I will link to everyone who participates and leaves a link to their 13 things. Trackbacks, pings, comment links accepted!

I've read three of your posts so far, and I will read the rest tomorrow. I can't imagine being that far away from home on September 11th. I was at work, and I felt like I was a million miles away from my family.
But, I can't wait to read more about Egypt. That is someplace I have ALWAYS wanted to go!!

I'm so jealous! I soooo want to visit Egypt! Better you were there and not in New York at that particular time.

Great Post. I'm not completely finished, but I've got a good start. I'm tired, but I'll sneak a peak tomorrow while I'm supposed to be working. heh heh
Mine's up...although it's not nearly as interesting as yours! *LOL*

Great idea, it has been fun reading your posts as a serial.
I can't imagine being out of the country, much less in the middle east at that time in our history.
Happy TT!

Glad to see you've continued your Egypt narrative!
Comment by matthew on 4:55 PM
Why was there smoke in the hotel?
Comment by Natalie on 4:57 PM
It sounds like a wonderful trip. I can't imagine all the amzing things you must have seen. Glad you made it back safely though!
Comment by Morgen on 5:07 PM
Matthew: you can read the details actually in Egypt 3: Mena House.
But it was just people burning trash outside the hotel complex. It was just too freaky, though, after having been up all night watching the twin towers collapse over and over and over again on the BBC, then to wake up and there being smoke in the hotel room! Freaky!
When you have time, I encourage you to read the posts!
Thanks, everyone for your visit and comments!
